Iedereen die vandaag buiten is geweest weet het; het is stervenswaterkoud! Maar gelukkig hebben we iets heel fijns om je op te warmen. Treasure Fingers heeft inmiddels een kleine traditie lopen die ‘Wintermix’ heet, en zelden kwam zo’n mix zo tot z’n recht als vandaag. Ik heb de mix amper 5 minuten opstaan en m’n ijsklompjes van tenen zijn inmiddels net zo warm als m’n gloei-oren. Een heerlijke warm-up voor nu, en zo mogelijk een nog betere voor vrijdag, pomp die dikke disco!

Twee jaar geleden was er opeens een heel vrolijke noot aan de muzikale horizon van Rauw. De mega hit Cross The Dancefloor wordt nog steed gedraaid. Een echte klassieker dus! De man achter dit juweeltje is Treasure Fingers. En hij komt naar Rauw New Stijl in Amsterdam, hij schijnt de sterren van de hemel te draaien. Tijd voor Joost om hem stevig aan de tand te voelen. En hem gelijk maar even het shirt van ‘t lijf te vragen voor de contest.

JVB: Hey Mister! You ready?
TF: Yeah cool
JVB: At first, thanks for saying YES to the booking for Rauw, it’s an honour and for sure its gonna be a cool night. So tell me, where are you at this very moment and what time is it?
TF: I’m at my studio in Brooklyn and it’s 3:50pm, Monday January 25th.
JVB: What do you see when you look out of your window?
TF: No window, it’s a cold dark place here.
JVB: Ah, those are mostly the best studios, dark, and no idea what time it is anymore, hope you are not locked up in there for a very long time.
TF: Well, we’ve joked about adding a fake window
JVB: Ah, and what would the ideal view be? Planet Mars? An Italian lake like in a restaurant? A Hawaiian beach with Hula girls?
TF: The beach or a park, and maybe have Tiesto waving our way? Maybe a view like looking across the street into a brothel?
JVB: Ah! Haha, we can arrange views like that for you here easily! But tell me, Brooklyn?! I first thought you were from Los Angeles, because of Fools Gold, than found out you are from Atlanta Georgia…?
TF: Oh yes, I lived in Atlanta many years, never Los Angeles.
JVB: What’s Atlanta like? I only know it from that huge airport and people with the craziest golden teeth working there selling the wettest grey hamburgers ever.
TF: It’s a great city, big, but not too busy. It’s laidback & Southern. It’s known for it’s soul food and strip-clubs.
JVB: Aha, that’s most probably why Felix da Housecat is living there! Don’t get me wrong; think he loves his fried chicken…
TF: Haha, possibly.
JVB: Is it famous for any sound of dance music? Like Chicago for real house music, and Baltimore, for well, erm… Baltimore?!
TF: It’s just rap mostly, there’s not a predominant style of dance music that was bred there or is most popular. I always thought it would be great if we could invent “Atlanta house” but I still don’t know what that would even sound like.
JVB: Well, that’s obvious, it would sound like you of course. We actually really love what you do by the way. How would you describe your music and your dj style?
TF: Mostly just funky, good vibe party music. I mainly just try to keep the party jumping. My dj style is a bit traditional I think, keep it building, then take it down, then build it back up, repeat. The only thing different is that I mix fairly quickly.
JVB: Yeppers, that’s true, you are fast! Fast mixes but fast in tempo too. We get really happy when listening to your mixes, like an instant anti depressant. A sound we haven’t heard for a long time: happy was not hip for a long time.
TF: Ah good to know. I’m glad to see disco making a nice return.
JVB: Hmmm…, well yes and no, there lots of cheesy stuff coming out soon too. And I’m afraid the VIP Gucci dresses glam empty-headed tanned idiots are going to take over. That would kill it. Like electro house, urgh!
TF: For sure, that goes for any type of music though I think, when something becomes a bit popular, there’s a lot of bad versions of it too.
JVB: Well, those copycat people could never be edgy in the right way; originality is always heard. But anyway, what am I talking about?! It just started! Lets enjoy it while now when it’s great and fresh. About ‘Cross the DanceFloor’, that track was a super hit here on our dance floors. When did you make that track?
TF: I think 2007 was when I made it, and it was released in 2008.
JVB: And it still gets played, that’s amazing.
TF: Yes, I think there were so many good remixes done of it that it gave it some longevity.
JVB: Whats the story with the record label Fools Gold? How come it came out on that label? Fools Gold wasn’t big in 2008 yet.
TF: I had a lot of mutual friends with A-trak and Nick Catchdubs, and knew of the early Fools Gold releases. A-trak contacted me after hearing ‘Cross the Dancefloor’ and said they were interested in it, so we talked about release plans, remixers and all. I thought it would be a good look and signed on board with them.
JVB: Good on you, what a monster ht! Is there any new stuff coming out, real genuine Treasure Fingers gems?
TF: Yes, I’ve got 2 new singles I’m finishing right now (literally), one is called ‘Lift me’, and the other is called ‘Keep up with my body’. ‘Lift Me’ is a big clubby house track, and ‘Keep up..’ is like an 80s boogie electro freestyle type track with vocals on it. Both should be promo-ing early March
JVB: Wow, I can’t wait to hear them! You’ll love playing them on our sound system, its huge! Have you been to Holland before?
TF: Yes, but I’ve never played there as Treasure Fingers. I’ve played there a lot at drum & bass parties with my other project: Evol Intent.
JVB: Really?! I didn’t know that! That’s a huge difference from what you are doing now.
TF: Oh yeah, it’s totally different speeds. It’s like bi-polarism, I mean totally different vibes. And about Holland, it is one of my favorite places actually; I’m really looking forward to coming there again. True.
JVB: I think you are going to love it, its a shame you can not do the Saturday in Utrecht, that one gets really mental. But Amsterdam = super too. So Mister Treasure Fingers, last question: how should our crowd prepare for a set by you?
Should we get any special clothes? Or consume lots of vitamins so we pee fluorescent? Or rehearse silly dances?
TF: Hahaha! Rehearsed dances would be nice! But no jump style please though…
JVB: Oops, forgot all about that one. Any dance in particular we should all know?
TF: Probably the Roger Rabbit
JVB: Ah the rabbit! And what about the Marsh Mellow?
TF: I get a lot of people asking me what the Marsh Mellow is, so maybe everyone should research that one and come prepared.
JVB: We’ll do both! I’ll check it out and we’ll try to have 1500 people jumping Rabbit & Marsh Mellow style for you sir.
TF: Great.

Treasure Fingers zal vrijdag 12 februari de Melkweg platdraaien met een overheerlijke set waar de funk en disco vanaf druipt. Hij heeft er zo’n zin an dat hij er vrijgevig van wordt.

Treasure Fingers zette de schatkist van Fool’s Gold voor ons op een kiertje en er vielen pardoes 4 kwaliteits-shirts uit. Onze kast hangt al vol met zwart en dus tijd om er een ander mee te verblijden. We gooien er tevens 2 kaarten per winnaar tegenaan zodat je gelijk een goede reden hebt om je hagelnieuwe shirt een zweet-doop te geven.

Wat moet je doen om bij ons een dansje in je nieuwe shirt te komen doen? Heel simpel; laat ons zien hoe je je ass shaket op de dancefloor op Treasure Fingers’ superhit ‘Cross the Dancefloor’, leg het vast en stuur het swingende resultaat naar ons op. Ben je wat onzeker over je eigen dans-kunsten, dan gedogen we ook hoe je die hit onder een filmpje van dansende anderen plakt, maar dan moet ‘t wel een héééél leuk filmpje zijn.

Inzenden kan tot en met 9 februari dus je kunt nog even oefenen. En doe dat maar want hoe origineler en fanatieker, hoe beter. We kijken nu al uit naar al die shakende ass-en.
