Henry Riton komt weer naar Rauw en iedereen die vorig jaar de Rauweekender meemaakte weet wat dat betekent; van zweven naar zweten in één oerknal van een set. Joost trok Henry nog effe aan z’n nekhaar voor meneer t vliegtuig naar Amsterdam pakte.

JVB: Mr. Riiiiiiiiiiiton! Here I am, had to do some laundry…

R: I’m back too

JVB: So, here we go! Where are you now? And what do you see when you look out of the window?

R: I’m in my studio and i can see the roof tops of camden and all of its delights

JVB: Did it snow there too? we are sooo fed up with all that snow

R:it Might have snowed, i’ve been looked in doing a remix in my underpants with the heat turned on full, locked in rather.

JVB: I hope 1. it won’t snow tomorrow so your flight will leave 2. you get to find a way to get out of that studio 3. you will wear clean undies tmrw! You have been in the studio lots lately, what did you do yesterday, a remix? For whom?

R: I’ve sold my soul for a new kitchen … im doing a Cheryl Cole remix (Xfactor judge), it’s turned out really great though. I’m using some new trance wrongness ive made up

JVB: Trance wrongness is going to be huge I think, end 90′s beginning 00′s feel and then made ridiculous, I’m all for it! I truly hope it’s going to be demented! And carte blanche with Mehdi, whats that all about?

R: The carte blanche is going really good we spent a week working last week and finally have the first ep finished which is 4 tracks, plus a couple of others for vocals later. We’re going to do a dj mix with our own tracks so weve got loads to get through

JVB: Ah, cool, I heard a sneak preview, there’s so much energy! And vocals would be really cool.

R: Awesome!

JVB: We are big Riton fans, your music is just great and your sound is simply perfect. And your dj set last year in utrecht was legendary, we think you might have held back a bit so 2manydj’s could score easier. Do you remember that night?

R: Of course how could i forget your introduction, and I’ll try to play bigger this time! (better get this trance hit finished)

JVB Oh god, I said you were from LONDON right ? And you are from NEWCASTLE or Birmingham or some other city?

R: Well, you pretended you couldn’t remember my name, cunt!

JVB: Ah that trick, haha, I do it all the time. It works, dj’s tend to get less serious and off guard and they play better. And me, a CUNT? Erm… talking about cuntyness, are you GAY? Read you are a GAY ICON! I am too, and had never expected you to be from the same planet.

R: I’m not gay, just a gay icon, self made.

JVB: Well, okay, erm… I think I am a straight icon, but gay, so we are absolutely not from the same planet. Glad we got that out of the way. So, this weekend, what can we expect from you?

R: Some hits and some misses, something hard and something for the ladies (not some other hard thing)

JVB: That sounds just perfect. Really looking forward to this weekend, great to have you on board mister!

R: Me too !

JVB: Any message to the world you want to share with us as a last thing?

R: Can i borrow that big dutch computer thats making all the house tunes at the moment?

JVB: Sure i’ll ask around! There’s a new version actually which prints money, so no need to make music anymore, real handy!

Riton (Franse slang voor Henry, z’n voornaam) draait alweer n tijdje mee in het danswereldje, zijn eerste release ‘Communicated’ dateert uit 2001. Zijn doorbraak kwam met het album dat luistert naar de fijnzinnige titel ‘Homies and homos’. Erg vocaal, maar slim in elkaar gezet.

In 2005 joinde Ben Fat Trucker hem om Gucci Soundsystem te vormen. Hun remix van LCD Soundsystems ‘Time to get away’ werd grijsgedraaid door elke zichzelf repsecterende dj. Ook hebben zij samen een  club, Druzzi’s Baltimore Rave Club in het ultra-hippe Shoreditch East-London, waar werkelijk elke internationale Rauw-dj wel gedraaid heeft, van Erol Alkan tot 2 Many DJs en alles ertussenin.

Natuurlijk kent de gemiddelde Rauwdauwer ‘em al een tijdje, maar werkelijk onvergetelijk was zijn set tijdens Rauweekender vorig jaar. Stiekem kwam heel Tivoli voor afsluiters 2 Many DJs, maar de ‘warm-draaiende’ Riton zorgde ervoor dat de Dewaele boertjes met knikkende knieën de decks van hem overnamen. Hoe konden ze Ritons set ooit overtreffen? Het werd alsnog een knalfeest met ze, maar Riton overtreffen lukte bij lange na niet.

Als je er toen om wat voor reden dan ook niet was, heb je nu de kans om de schade enigszins in te halen.
